Fall Arrest

A fall arrest system contains three main parts, all of which need to be regularly maintained and inspected. These are:

  • An anchorage point
  • A connecting device
  • A full body harness

The goal of a fall protection system is to ‘arrest a fall’ and to reduce the effect (or impact) of the fall by absorbing the energy in a controlled manner.

An important point to consider is the positioning of the anchoring point. It should be placed vertically above the place of work. If not, the worker will have a danger of swinging whilst falling. This increases the impact of the fall due to the likelihood hitting a wall or another obstacle.
